January saw a renewed expansion in the US manufacturing sector amid a surge in confidence. The month’s seasonally-adjusted S&P Global US manufacturing PMI read 51.2, up from December’s 49.4, pointing to a modest boost in the sector’s health. Both output and new orders returned to growth, while optimism in the year-ahead production outlook hit a 34-month high. New export orders fell marginally.
